The academic standard of the College has throughout remained of a high order. Quite a large number of students have passed out of the College with distinctions and high first divisions. In professional Colleges and Universities, the products of this institution have been doing equally well. The ISC (Class XII) & ICSE (Class X) results of the School have been excellent with student securing distinctions in large numbers.

TUTORIALS AND CAREER COUNSELLING :

The College has a tutorial system for improving the academic stand of the weak ones. Tuitions are undertaken by concerned teachers on request from the parent to the Principal, who reserves the right to grant tuitions to a ward. Tuitions apart, the College also provides coaching facilities for pre-medical & pre-engineering classes for the students in Classes XI & XII. The lectures are given by selected experts for which the students have to make extra payment. The College also has a career counseling cell to provide information about the careers to be chosen by the students.

CURRICULUM :

The curriculum in the earlier years prepared the Kumar's for the Chief's College Diploma and the College had the credit of securing the best Diploma results for several years, compared with other Chief's Colleges. The College started presenting boys for the Cambridge Examination in 1942 replacing the Chief's College Diploma Examination. The change of the curriculum was necessary to give all students better general education in keeping with the changed political and economic conditions.

The Cambridge Examination continued in this College till 1963 and later on an Indian Board with the local syndicate in Delhi was established to conduct the examination on the Cambridge pattern.

The College at present is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi and prepares the students for ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) Examinations.

At present, the College has classes from Nursery to XII with each class having two to three sections, and each section having about 25-30 students - an ideal strength for effective teaching. The students take Class X Examination at about the age of sixteen.

The medium of instruction is English but equally strong emphasis is laid on Hindi also. The subjects taught in the normal curriculum are English, Hindi / Oriya, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Electronics, Computer Science, Accounts, Business Maths, Music, Fine Arts etc., Thus the College boasts of having all the three major streams i.e Science, Humanities & Commerce. The subjects taught are prone to alteration as laid down by the Council for the ISC Examinations, New Delhi from time to time.

SCHOLARSHIP :

The College awards a number of scholarships to outstanding students of the school, mainly for academic excellence :-

1. Six boarders are awarded scholarships of 50% of the annual fee on the basis of their performance in the independently conducted scholarship test held each year on the 2nd Sunday of April.

2. Similarly six day scholars are awarded scholarships of 50% of the annual fee on the basis of their performance in the independently conducted Scholarship Test held as above.

Minimum aggregate of marks required to avail the scholarship in the scholarship test is fixed at 75% and the scholarship is awarded for only one year to deserving students.

3. Shri B.C. Tiwari Memorial Scholarship of Rs. 2500/- is awarded each year to the student who secured highest marks in Science in the ICSE Examination.

4. Shri Shankar Pratap Deo of Dhenkanal Memorial Scholarship for Environmental Studies.

EXAMINATIONS AND PROGRESS REPORT :

The progress of a student is monitored and evaluated by three Internal Assessment Tests and three main examinations in an academic year. The promotion of a student depends on his consistently good performance throughout the year.

The Principal's decision in matters regarding placement and position of students in a class is final.

The minimum pass mark in each subject is 40% and passing in English is compulsory in all classes for promotion.
